RAM Medical

Photo by Reuters-the tagline "People wait in line to enter a Remote Area Medical (RAM) health clinic at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Wise, Virginia July 25, 2009. The free clinic, which lasts 2-1/2 days, is the largest of its kind in the nation providing medical, dental and vision services from more than 1,400 medical volunteers."

This group (Remote Area Medical - RAM) was in Wise County, VA a few weekends ago. People camped in their cars to get a place in line. Here's RAM's website - they could always use volunteers for these clinics and, of course, donations http://www.ramusa.org/ The founder is an amazing guy - for us older folks, we'll remember him from the original Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. 60 Minutes did a segment last year on RAM and one of clinics they ran in Knoxville - Here's the link http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/02/28/60minutes/main3889496.shtml 60 Minutes heard about an American relief organization that airdrops doctors and medicine into the jungles of the Amazon. It's called Remote Area Medical, or "RAM" for short. The U.S. has become a third world country when it comes to healthcare for our citizens.

Yet another city-another story of Americans desperate for affordable Health Care:
