historical fiction "lite"......,
While Palace circle started fairly well, this debut author made a huge mistake in going for a generational storyline, as the story falls flat about 120 pages in, when the storyline switches from Delia's story to her daughter's.
While Delia was an interesting character-a young American married to a older British diplomat whom she finds has only married her for an heir-her daughter Davinia's story was a boring tale of a spoiled society girl looking for love. I couldn't even finish the book.
For historical fiction, this is very frothy. Really a two star book but it is the author's debut and it's obvious she does have talent. Her next book may be better and I would try her again.
3 stars.
